Quality and Versatility Lings leading car showroom needed to exude top class quality and service throughout, over and beyond the gleaming new cars on the forecourt. Although not a large installation by modern office standards, the car showroom presented its own individual challenges when it came to data cabling, mixing the needs of typical business administration applications with potential for high-end multimedia requirements. These were planned in order to take advantage of leading edge presentation tools and equipment in future. In addition, these varied applications would need to operate in a variety of environmental conditions from offices in the showroom to an industrial setting in the workshop areas.
Support Lings Honda finally decided on a Category 7 solution from Nexans utilising the backwards compatible LANmark-7 GG45 connector. The installation was carried out under the supervision of the main electrical contractor ‘C.L.S’. The cabling supervisor ‘Ian Thacker’ had previous experience of cabling oil rigs and therefore was very professional and installed the cabling to a very high standard. However, as Category 7 was unfamiliar, Nexans provided on-site training and assistance prior to termination to explain the installation features and demonstrate the use of Nexans patented Cat 7 cable stripping tool which vastly simplified the preparation and termination of the individually screened cable. Phil White, IT Manager at Lings Honda commented “We were very pleased with the level of support provided by Nexans in the roll-out of the project which helped us to achieve critical deadlines in the first phase of occupying the building”
The installation was completed earlier this year and Lings have already started to make use of the cable sharing properties of a Category 7 after having purchased some Nexans application splitter cords.
