Paris, September 4, 2008 – Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, is at HUSUM WindEnergy to launch its WINDLINK® range of comprehensive cable solutions specifically designed for wind turbines of all sizes, including power and control cables as well as special cables and accessories. The new range features copper, aluminum and fibre optic cables and components that have been fully tested under live operating conditions and mechanical stresses to ensure compatibility and durability as a system, so they guarantee efficient generation of electricity for turbine manufacturers.
Pascal Portevin, Chief Corporate Officer, responsible for Nexans’ Strategic Operations, says “the global wind energy market is growing fast, with over 22 Gigawatts added each year, so our demanding customers needs customized cable solutions like WINDLINK® to deliver the performance, reliability and security they require for their wind turbines to produce the expected Megawatts per hour output, often in harsh and changing climates”.
Demanding cable conditions To meet the needs of wind turbine OEMs for performance and reliability, the WINDLINK® range offers special industrial cables that can withstand torsion, wide temperature variations, abrasion, vibration, ageing, oil and cooling fluids.
Nexans has developed special insulation compounds for low-voltage loop cables (used to transmit energy from the generator in the rotating nacelle to the transformer in the stationary tower) that can withstand at least 2,000 torsion cycles at -40°C, so they are unaffected by the constant twisting caused as the nacelle turns to face the wind whatever the temperature conditions.
Easy-to-install compact connectors Nexans manufactures prefabricated and pretested kits, including compact connectors specifically designed for easy and safe installation.
Cable solutions for all types of renewable energy In addition to wind turbines, Nexans has a major involvement in the deployment of wind farm infrastructures, including the manufacture of high voltage submarine cables linking offshore fields to power networks on the mainland and medium voltage inter-array cables to connect offshore turbines.
Nexans is also expanding its offering in cables for photovoltaic (solar energy) applications as well as providing cables for biomass power stations that convert biological waste materials, such as wood, into energy.
Meet Nexans at HUSUM WindEnergy Nexans is presenting its WINDLINK® cable solutions at HUSUM WindEnergy from 9 to 13 September 2008 in Husum, Germany. You are invited to meet our experts on booth A11 in Hall 2.
